New Delhi, January 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted widespread rainfall accompanied by snowfall and cold wave conditions across northwest India during the next couple of days. The 'intense' weather conditions in the northern states are being influenced by a Western Disturbance (WD). As a result of the changing weather conditions, several states in the north including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to witness heavy snowfall and rain.

According to private weather agency Skymet Weather, the Western Disturbance lies over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir and the systems would be moving east/northeastwards slowly. Due to this, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh may witness a heavy downpour accompanied by thunderstorms from Monday. Delhi Under Dense Fog: 10 Trains Delayed as Fog Engulfs National Capital.

On Monday, Bikram Singh, Director Met Department of Uttarakhand said heavy rainfall and snowfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Dehradun, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand on 22 January 2019. Singh added saying that hailstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand on Wednesday. According to IMD, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience heavy snowfall owing to the WD in the region on Tuesday. Uttar Pradesh is also believed to receive scattered rain with thunderstorms. In Delhi, the mercury dipped considerably, a day after the region witnessed the warmest day of 2019. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted light drizzle in the capital for a couple of days with moderate showers at some places.
