Weather Forecast: Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to Receive Heavy Rainfall in Next 48 as Low Pressure Area Forms Over Bay of Bengal

According to IMD, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal to the southeast of Sri Lanka by Thursday, which is expected to move northwest towards Tamil Nadu coast and intensify into a cyclonic storm by April 29.

Chennai, April 25: Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will receive heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours following a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. Both the southern states will witness a heavy downpour due to the possibility of a cyclonic storm over Bay of Bengal. Reports inform that a low pressure area is likely to intensify into a depression in the coming days. After forming a depression in the Bay of Bengal, the system is expected to move towards the coast of Tamil Nadu, then intensifying further into a cyclonic storm. This process might bring in rainfall for the states in the middle of scorching summer. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to Receive Heavy Rainfall in Coming Days.

A Meteorological Department official said that the low-pressure situation is very likely to intensify into a depression by April 27, move towards Tamil Nadu coast and intensify into a cyclonic storm by April 29. The weather department official in Chennai said, "Due to this cyclonic activity, moderate to heavy rain likely to occur over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry 29th April onwards."

According to IMD, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal to the southeast of Sri Lanka by Thursday, which is expected to move northwest towards Tamil Nadu coast and intensify into a cyclonic storm by April 29.

“A trough of low at mean sea level lies over the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal with a cyclonic circulation aloft extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level", IMD said. According to details by Skymet Weather, the system is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm during the subsequent 24 hours i.e. by either by evening of April 27 or early morning of April 28.
