Bengaluru, Sep 20: The southern states of India including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rains accompanied with lightning and thunderstorm in the next 24 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier this week sent an advisory alerting the states to be prepared for the change in climatic conditions especially in north coastal Andhra Pradesh. The IMD said that a low-pressure area has formed over East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining Myanmar coast and is likely to concentrate into a Depression.

The IMD has forecasted very heavy rainfall over Chhattisgarh and Telangana and plains of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Rayalaseema and Karnataka during the next two days. The IMD informed that the system is likely to move west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh & south Odisha coasts during the same period and likely to cross south Odisha -north Andhra Pradesh coasts around 20th September and move further west-northwestwards across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh subsequently. Cyclonic Circulations in Arabian Sea Cause Rain in Mumbai, Possibility to Increase Showers from Maharashtra to Odisha, Says IMD. 

“Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls at isolated places likely over Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh; heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places likely over Telangana and heavy rain at isolated places very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh”, the IMD said in its release.

During the next few days, the condition of the sea is rough to very rough likely over south and the central Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea and along and off Andhra Pradesh Coastal region. The fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in the next two days.
