Mumbai, August 3: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) said that it would conduct a special water quality testing campaign on Sunday, August 4 as a precautionary measure against the spread of waterborne diseases. For the water quality testing campaign, the NMMC will collect 1,000 water samples. The development comes days after the civic body announced restoration or normal supply within its jurisdictions.

The water quality testing campaign is aimed to ensure safety of water during the monsoon season. Overseen by Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, the water department reportedly collects 100-odd samples on a daily basis, reports Hindustan Times. Shinde said that there was a need to widen the water sampling process even though water potability and presence of water pollutants are checked for from specific points regularly. Water Supply To Resume in Navi Mumbai: NMMC Announces Restoration of Normal Water Supply From July 29 As Morbe Dam’s Water Levels Nears 74%.

"The idea is to be certain that nowhere in the city water quality is of concern as consumption of non-potable water can lead to a health scare," the municipal commissioner added. It must be noted that several people develop symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever during the monsoon season, thus indicating sewage or animal waste contamination in the water.

Under the water quality testing campaign, NMMC officials will visit households, commercial spaces, Gaothans and educational institutes among other places to collect 1000 water samples. Additionally, water samples will also be collected from primary water pipelines as well. Officials also said that the collected water samples will be tested for range of issues including PH value, turbidity, presence of total dissolved solids, Residual Chlorine among others. Meanwhile, the water level in Morbe dam has reached 84.67 metres.
