Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) held protest in Chennai’s Chepak against the Tamil Nadu government over an acute water crisis in the city. DMK President MK Stalin also joined the protest. Protesters also held pots in their hands demanding water from the government.
Chennai, June 24: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) held protest on Monday in Chennai’s Chepak against the Tamil Nadu government over an acute water crisis in the city. DMK President MK Stalin also joined the protest. Senior party leaders Dayanidhi Maran and J Anbazhagan accompanied Stalin in the protest. Protesters also held pots in their hands demanding water from the government. “The pot is here, where is the water?,” was written on the water containers. The DMK had even protested against the state government over the water crisis in the state. Meanwhile, on Monday, DMK MP TR Baalu also submitted a notice in the Lok Sabha over the water crisis in Tamil Nadu.

On June 21, the Tamil Nadu government accepted Kerala's help of 20 lakh drinking water. The decision was taken on Friday in a review meeting chaired by chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Tamil Nadu is facing severe water crisis, particularly in Chennai as four of its reservoirs, the main source of drinking water in the city, turned dry. Rising temperature has also added to the woes of people across the state. On June 11, the Tamil Nadu government had also requested the Centre for sanctioning over Rs 5,000 crore for various drinking water supply schemes in the state.
