Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 11: A heart-wrenching video has emerged from Kerala where a rescue worker saved a child's life with barely seconds to remain. The video was shot from an elevated position across the Cheruthoni bridge. The clip shows how the bridge gets engulfed under water seconds after the rescue worker runs across it with a child in his arms.
The footage, shared by News18 Kerala, was shot after the fifth shutter of Idukki dam was opened up as the water had crossed its capacity-mark. The water was to be released in the Cheruthoni river, through which it is expected to enter the Arabian sea.

According to reports, the rescue worker seen in the footage is a police official. His identity, however, was yet to be confirmed.
Kerala has been reeling under floods over the past three days as the state has witnessed unprecedented rainfall. 11 of the 14 districts of the state have been declared flood-hit, with units of the NDRF and Indian Army deployed to assist the in the rescue operation.
A total of 29 people have died in the floods so far, with over 50,000 being shifted to rescue camps to prevent casualties. "Government of India has sent armed forces and they have been on ground for past 3 days. They have been helping the state government administration. NDRF teams have also been sent. The Prime Minister has also spoken to Chief Minister about this," said Union Minister KJ Alphons.
