India’s A-SAT shot down a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite in its test 'Mission Shakti'. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) carried out the mission which was completed within three minutes of its launch. “Our scientists have shot down a Low Earth Orbit live satellite via anti-satellite (A-SAT) missile in a test mission,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his address to the nation. He further added, “The mission was completed within three minutes of launch.”

Responding to India’s demonstration of A-SAT capabilities, China said that hope India would uphold peace in outer space. Meanwhile, Pakistan also asked the international community to condemn the mission. Pakistan Foreign Ministry in a statement said, “Space is the common heritage of mankind, and every nation has the responsibility to avoid actions which can lead to the militarization of this arena.”
