Bhopal, July 12: As a mark of protest over floods and water-logged streets, Bhopal Mayor Alok Sharma on Thursday sat on a chair in the middle of a waterlogged street in the Safia College area. Sharma said he is inspecting the ground situation by doing so. Reports inform that around 70 commercial outlets and residential homes were water-logged due to a heavy downpour in the area.

“I am not sitting on dharna. I called the Collector regarding the matter. The authorities say that they will complete the work then why did the work not completed. I have been sitting in the control room since 5 in the morning”, Sharma was quoted by ANI.
Bhopal has been witnessing water-logging due to heavy downpour. Heavy rainfall has been predicted for many places including Ratlam, Khargone, Vidisha, Dewas, Khandwa, Hoshangabad, Betul, Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain in the state.
The Meteorological Department of the Bhopal circle informed that a monsoon trough is passing over Madhya Pradesh. Besides, there is an upper air cyclonic circulation over north-east MP.
The Mayor said he has been appealing this for years to have a nodal agency made for every department, but nothing has been done as yet. Reports inform that the Mayor had reached the spot at around 8.45am, sat on a chair in the middle of the road and began his protest. Senior district administration officials have called for a meeting on Saturday to resolve the issue.
