Vadodara: Seven, Including Four Sanitation Workers Die of Suffocation While Cleaning Hotel’s Septic Tank

According to a tweet by ANI, the seven people who have lost their lives include four sanitation workers.

Ahmedabad, June 15: In yet another incident of lack of safety leading to fatal results for sanitation workers, at least seven people have lost their lives  while cleaning a hotel's septic tank in Gujarat's Vadodara on Saturday. According to a tweet by ANI, the seven people who have lost their lives include four sanitation workers. The workers allegedly died of suffocation while cleaning the septic tank of a hotel in Fartikui village in Vadodara.  Varanasi: Two Sanitation Workers Die of Suffocation While Cleaning Manhole.

Earlier in May, a similar incident was reported from Uttar Pradesh where two labourers, one of them a teenager, lost their lives after they got stuck in a 40-feet deep borewell in Noida which they had entered without any safety measures. On Thursday, Manhar Valjibhai Zala, chairperson, National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) said as many as 801 sanitation workers have died while cleaning sewers in the country since 1993. According to a report by PTI, Zala, who is on a six-day tour of Himachal Pradesh, said various states had been told to provide safety equipment to safai karamcharis for the cleaning of sewers.
