New Delhi, October 4: Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in New Delhi for his two-day visit to attend the annual India-Russia summit. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj received him at Palam Air Force Station. During the visit, both India and Russia are likely to conclude long pending S-400 Triumf air defence system deal. A top Kremlin aid on Tuesday said that Putin would himself oversee the signing of the deal.

The Russian president will hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss crucial issues. According to reports, both the countries will also discuss the United States (US) sanctions on the import of Iranian crude oil. Putin will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind. During the bilateral summit, both the countries are likely to sign about 20 pacts ranging from defence, nuclear energy, space and economy. Below is the itinerary of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India:

  • The Russian premiere will Meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence.
  • On Friday, Delegation-level talks will take place at Hyderabad House at 11:30 am.
  • Both the countries will sign the agreement and press briefing will take place at 1:20 pm at Hyderabad House.
  • Putin will interact with children at Central Garden, ITC Maurya, at 2.30 pm
  • At 3:30 pm, Putin will address India-Russia Business Summit at ITC Maurya
  • The Russian President will meet President Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 4.30 pm
  • Putin will depart for Russia at 5.40 pm

After Japan, Russia is the second country with which India holds annual bilateral summits. The India-Russia bilateral relationship was elevated to Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership in 2010. In the last month, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj visited Moscow for the 23rd India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Technical and Economic Cooperation (IRIGC-TEC) meeting which also paved the way for Putin's visit to India.
