Virat Kohli, Team India Captain, Won’t Be Able to Vote in Lok Sabha Elections 2019; Here’s Why

As the Lok Sabha Elections are on, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to every citizen, including top leaders from various fields, to cast their votes in 2019 general elections. The PM had also appealed to cricketers including Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli.

Mumbai, April 27: As the Lok Sabha Elections are on, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to every citizen, including top leaders from various fields, to cast their votes in 2019 general elections. The PM had also appealed to cricketers including Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli. According to the India Today report, Kohli wanted to vote from Mumbai, from where his wife and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma also votes. While, he applied to vote through online procedure, but is past the deadline. The last date for applying for voting id was March 30, but the Indian Cricket team captain couldn't do it before the deadline.

Election commission official, speaking to India Today, said, "The application of Virat Kohli has been received. However, we have kept it on pending. He won't be able to vote for current Lok Sabha elections because it is too late. Therefore we have put his application on hold, his application will be considered for the next elections." The World Cup 2019 Captain's team had also made several calls to EC and tried to get his name registered in voter' list. Kohli's desperation can be understood as Prime Minister Modi had personally appealed to him, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.

Another senior officer from Election Commission office, said, "His team made several calls and tried a lot to get his name registered in the voting list. However, we made them understand that they have already missed the deadline.
