Mumbai, September 16: The Virar police recently arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly stabbing his wife to death in the city. Police officials said the incident occurred on Friday, September 13, when the accused stabbed his wife multiple times, thereby resulting in her death. During the preliminary investigation, cops learned that the accused killed his wife over suspicion of her having an extramarital affair.
Cops Find Victim's Body with Multiple Stab Wounds
The incident occurred on September 13, when the Virar police were alerted by residents of the Ekvira building after they allegedly heard disturbances and screams from the flat where Rathod and his wife stayed. When cops reached the spot, they found the victim, Bharti's body, with multiple wounds of stabbing on her chest and stomach, reports the Hindustan Times. Accused Confesses to Killing Wife
Cops sent Bharti's body for post-mortem and launched a search for her missing husband. They also registered a case of murder against Bharti's husband, Gopal Rathod. The next day, cops managed to track Rathod through his mobile phone location in Kalayn and arrested him. During interrogation, Rathod confessed to killing his wife.
Accused Suspected Wife of Having Affair
He told cops that on Friday, September 13, he reached home and found his wife speaking to someone on her mobile phone. Rathod assumed Bharti was having an affair and started beating her up. However, when Bharti tried to defend herself, a drunk Rathod allegedly picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her multiple times until she collapsed. During the investigation, cops also found that Rathod was an alcoholic who drank every day. A neighbour told cops that the accused used to abuse his wife every day and even physically assault her after consuming alcohol. Cops also learned that Bharti requested Rathod to quit drinking, which angered him more. After his arrest, Rathod was produced before the magistrate court which remanded him to police custody.
