Villagers Put Chilli Powder in Women's Private Parts for Selling Illegal Liquor in Assam's Karimganj District

Mob violence and mob justice has become a menace with reports of crowd beating up people suspected in wrongdoing reported from parts of the country. A mob in Assam allegedly put chili powder in a woman's private parts for selling illegal liquor, says reports. The incident is said to have taken place in the Karimganj district of Assam. The woman was attacked and stripped by the villagers for allegedly selling illegal brew. The Karimganj superintendent of police, Gaurav Upadhyay, was quoted saying by The Tribune that the incident took place on September 10 in a remote tribal area along the Assam- Mizoram border.

He confirmed that the police came to know about the incident only when it went viral on social media. According to reports, the woman has not identified her attackers.

The Karimganj superintendent of police, Gaurav Upadhyay, also said that the video shows women involved in the act as well. Upadhyay added that cases will be registered under relevant IT act against those who shot and circulated the video as well.
