Mumbai, August 25: The Mumbai police recently arrested a lawyer for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman from the city after promising to marry her. The accused identified as Siddhanth Kapase (27), is a resident of Dombivali while the victim is from Kurla. Police officials said that the victim approached the lawyer to get her mother out on bail who was arrested for theft.

During the said time, the accused lawyer helped the woman's mother get bail and befriended her. Later, the accused raped the young woman by promising to marry her, reports the HT. It is reported that the victim's mother was arrested in a theft case and she was looking for a lawyer to get her mom out on bail. Post this, the woman approached the NGO and met the accused lawyer Siddhant Kapse. Following this, the two exchanged numbers and began chatting. Kapse even helped the victim to get her mother out on bail. In February 2023, the victim's mother was released on bail. After this, the accused and the victim began meeting and even went to a movie.

The officer said that the accused lawyer touched the woman when she objected. The officer also stated that Kapse promised to marry the woman and took her to his house where he had sexual relations with her. The victim then approached the police who booked and arrested the accused under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
