New Delhi, July 27: Liquor baron Vijay Mallya, declared fugitive by probing agencies in India, has petitioned the Supreme Court through his counsel seeking stay on confiscation of properties not related to the Kingfisher Airlines. The plea comes days after the Bombay High Court rejected a similar petition filed by Mallya.
Mallya, who is currently in the UK, has wrote in his petition before the Indian apex court that properties which are not related to Kingfisher Airlines cannot be attached under the legal provisions. Vijay Mallya Decries Witch-Hunt After UK High Court Permits Appeal Against His Extradition Order
The same argument was rejected by the Bombay High Court, in its verdict dated July 11, saying that the constitutional validity of Fugitive Economic Offenders (FEO) Act, 2018, will be subject to the outcome of another pending petition before the bench which has challenged its legality.

Mallya fled the nation in March 2016, days after a consortium of 17 Indian private and state-run lenders approached the judiciary seeking action against him for "wilfully defaulting" a collective loan amount of nearly Rs 9,000 crore.
The Indian agencies pursued Mallya's extradition with the UK counterparts. A legal victory came earlier this year, when the Westminster Magistrate's court in London ordered his extradition to India.
The then UK Home Secretary Sajid Javid had approved Mallya's extradition after his review plea was rejected by the Magistrate's court. However, the UK High Court, on July 2, gave the 63-year-old a breather by allowing him to challenge the lower court's order.
