Mumbai, December 17: Vijay Mallya has filed an affidavit before a court in Mumbai and stated his response on ED's claim that he carried 300 bags with him when he left for Geneva from India. The businessman refuted ED's claim and said in his reply that he was carrying only five bags with him when he flew for Geneva. The affidavit was filed on Mallya's behalf by his lawyer Amit Desai. The defaulting businessman stated in his reply that his travel was for the purpose of a meeting in Geneva. The ED has requested the special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) Court to declare Vijay Mallya a "fugitive economic offender (FEO)." The court has reserved its order on the matter. Desai said in his reply that Jet airways, the flight Mallya used to travel to Geneva for that trip, should be asked to make clear how many bags he had before making "such wild allegations." However, Mallya's troubles are far from over as a UK Court has ordered his extradition to India. Vijay Mallya's Extradition has been ordered by UK's Westminster Court. The matter has been referred to the Secretary of State (Home).
Welcoming the British court's judgement to extradite fugitive business tycoon Vijay Mallya to India, the CBI said it would bring him back soon. "We welcome the decision and hope to bring Vijay Mallya back soon. CBI has its own inherent strengths. We worked hard on this case. CBI was always strong on facts and legally we were confident while pursuing extradition process," a CBI spokesperson said.
