'Vidyasagar Week' to Be Celebrated in West Bengal to Mark the 200th Birth Anniversary of Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, Schools to Arrange Competitions And Functions
On the 200th birth anniversary of Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has paid her tribute to the great leader. In a series of two tweets, she said, "Bengal government will be observing 'Vidyasagar Week', which will be marked by essay competition, cultural functions, exhibition and seminars organised in schools."
Kolkata, September 26: On the 200th birth anniversary of Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar, West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has paid her tribute to the great leader. CM in another tweet highlighted that Vidyasagar was not only a great educationist, creator of 'Barnaparichay' but a great social reformer who has also left an indelible mark on the society. In the month of May, the 200-year-old Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar statue was vandalised during a clash at Amit Shah's Lok Sabha rally. Violence erupted during Shah's rally on May 14 after the sixth phase of Lok Sabha polling and miscreants entered Vidyasagar College in Kolkata. After this, they vandalised the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar at Vidyasagar College, which is affiliated to Calcutta University. The incident was highly condemned and in June, CM Mamata Banerjee re-installed the Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's bust at Vidyasagar College.
