Various activists in the region have formed different groups to press their long pending demand to separate Vidarbha from Maharashtra. While many are in support of separate Vidarbha, there are also people who are against the demand.
Besides the local demand, the Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also promised to grant separate state status to Vidarbha as his poll promise in 2014. However, the promise was never fulfilled by the Fadnavis led BJP government after coming into power. Moreover, the coalition partner Shiv Sena is also not in favour of separate Vidarbha.
