Hyderabad, October 8: Marking his disapproval over the growing number of beef festivals and kiss of love protests at university campuses, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said they are "unhealthy trends". Naidu also expressed concerns over the growing divide among the student populace on lines of caste, creed, religion and eating habits.

Speaking at the National Institute of Technology - Warangal (NITW), where the diamond jubilee celebrations of the institute is being celebrated, Naidu appealed the students to be wary of events such as the "beef festival". British Sikh Woman Jailed for Harassing Hindu Ex-Boyfriend with Beef.

The Vice President said such fests are akin to imposing your eating and living habits on another set of students -- who may not be inclined to the same due to cultural and religious reasons. "If you want to arrange such parties, do them privately," he said.

On kiss of love protests, Naidu said consensual adults should kiss privately in their rooms rather than kissing publicly on the varsity campus. "This is against our culture," he said.

Meanwhile, Naidu lauded the contribution of NITs in promoting the scientific temperament in the nation. The institutes, he added, boost the spirit of innovation in education.

"Innovations help in combating corruption and pilferage of subsidies. Innovation makes it possible to overcome the most pressing problems of our time efficiently and effectively," Naidu said.

The Vice President said that as the country is prepared to cut red tape and lay the red carpet for the world, it needs to focus on simplify and make procedures transparent.
