New Delhi, March 23: The Government of India on Saturday said that it has appointed Vice Admiral Karambir Singh as the next Chief of Naval Staff (CNS). Singh will take the charge on May 31, 2019, after the retirement of current Admiral Navy chief Sunil Lanba. Ministry of Defence in a statement said "Government appoints Vice Admiral Karambir Singh as the next Chief of Naval Staff. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba will vacate the office on 31 May 2019." In his 36-year-old career, the Vice Chief has commanded an Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship, a Guided Missile Destroyer as well as Naval Missile Corvette. According to Indian Navy website, Singh earned his wings as a helicopter pilot in 1982 and has extensive experience in flying Kamov Ka-25 and HAL Chetak helicopters.
