Mumbai, December 1: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is scheduled to hold a rally at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) -- a prime business location in Mumbai -- on Sunday, December 2, to press the government for a grand Ram Mandir at the disputed site in Ayodhya. Thousands of VHP cadres, along with workers affiliated to other Sangh Parivar affiliates, are expected to attend the gathering.
The BKC rally is being organised by the Navi Mumbai unit of VHP. However, one of the organisers told reporters that workers of Mumbai, Thane and Palghar units are actively engaged in making the rally a success. A worker affiliated with the Rashtra Sevika Samiti, which is participating in the rally, told reporters that the rally is not aimed against any individual, group or community. The aim is only to demand the government to build a grand temple at the site of Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya.
The VHP has launched a spree of events aimed at creating consensus among Hindus for pressuring the government to find alternative ways for Ram Mandir construction.
At the recently held Dharam Sansad in Ayodhya on November 25, the top saints passed a resolution asking the BJP-ruled Centre to pass an ordinance for construction of Ram Mandir. The resolution also expressed dissent against the judiciary for not prioritising a case linked to the "sentiments of crores of Hindus".
The VHP will continue to hold such events in all parts of the nation till January 31. If the government fails to take a concrete step by then, the organisation's top decision-making body will convene on February 1 to decide the future course of action. "We want the Ram Mandir at any cost before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections," a Parishad spokesperson had recently said.
