Mumbai, August 26:  A canteen boy in a Vasai school is accused of sexually abusing a class 2 female student. The parents of the victim approached the school after the girl was confronted about the situation. The incident was reported on August 22 when a Class 2 student refused to visit the canteen, even after her teacher urged her to do so.. School authorities reviewed CCTV footage and saw the accused, who handles food and cleaning, lingering near the water tap just before lunch break ended. the accused was immediately detained.

The 16-year-old canteen boy frequently hung around the area where students washed their hands during recess. The girl disclosed the abuse by the 'canteen uncle' to her family, who then contacted the school. When questioned, the girl revealed that the canteen boy had been inappropriately touching her for several days. The girl told her family and teacher that the boy had touched her back inappropriately, describing it as a 'bad touch.' The police were notified that same day, leading to the boy's detention.

The teenage boy, originally from Uttar Pradesh, recently relocated to the city and started working for the private contractor managing the school canteen two months ago. While schools typically hire female caretakers, male staffers are often employed in canteens within educational institutions. The state has recommended that schools employ female staff to care for children under six years old.
