New Delhi, July 24: V Maitreyan, the outgoing AIADMK MP, on Wednesday broke down during his address in the Rajya Sabha and thanked the late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa for her trust in him. According to a tweet by ANI, Maitreyan was in tears remembering his beloved leader, Amma (Jayalalithaa). In his address, he said Amma gave him the rare honour of being the only member from AIADMK to be given membership to Rajya Sabha for three terms. Maitreyan has a rare distinction of being a Rajya Sabha member for three terms, unparalleled in the history of AIADMK. AIADMK, BJP, PMK, DMDK Divide Seats in Tamil Nadu.

"At this juncture I place on record deep sense of gratitude towards my beloved leader, Amma (Jayalalithaa) for having immense faith in me & sending me to this House for 3 terms," Maitreyan said. The tenure of the AIADMK MP comes to an end this July. However, Maitreyan has expressed his wish to enter the electoral fray by contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier this year, Maitreyan had recalled his role in drafting the election manifesto of AIADMK since the 2001 state elections. He said he had won appreciation from none other than late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalaithaa. Maitreyan has been a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). In 1991, he became an executive member of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and also served as General Secretary of BJP's Tamil Nadu unit from 1995 to 1997, Vice President from 1997 to 1999 and President from 1999 to 2000. In 2000, he resigned from the BJP and joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).
