Dehradun, August 26: The Yamunotri Highway in Uttarakhand has been closed due to landslide near Hanuman Chatti in Uttarkashi. The state received moderate rainfall on Sunday, as a result of which several roads, highways were blocked due to the recurring landslides. According to the Times of India report, state emergency operation centre informed that atleast 77 roads, including National Highway, State Highway, district and village roads in the state remained blocked on Sunday. Chamoli district was the worst affected with 21 roads blocked due to heavy showers. Several areas in Uttarakhand received moderate to heavy shower between Saturday night and Sunday. The Meteorological department has predicted that the weather will remain more or less dry for the next few days, except for isolated spells of rain in few places.

As many as 17 people were reported dead in the cloudburst in Mori tehsil, according to Secretary (Incharge) Disaster Management, S A Murugesan earlier this month. Authorities have so far recovered bodies of 15 people and several people are reported to be still missing.

In an unfortunate incident, a private helicopter carrying relief material to flood-affected areas of Uttarakhand, crashed in Uttarkashi district last week, killing three persons on board. According to Uttarkashi Disaster Management officer Devendra Patwal, the deceased included the pilot, co-pilot and a local. The helicopter belonging to Heritage Aviation crashed near Moldi while returning after distributing relief material among the affected people.
