Uttarakhand: Yamunotri and Gangotri Valley Receive First Snowfall of This Season
With snowfall in the Uttarkashi region, the temperature has dipped in other parts of the state as well, including the capital Dehradun. Tourists in all parts of Uttarakhand are bracing for snowfall tomorrow.
Dehradun, November 3: A day after Jammu & Kashmir embraced snowfall, the bone-chilling cold weather has descended down to the Middle and Lower Himalayas as well, with the holy regions of Yamunotri and Gangotri in Uttarakhand receiving the first snowfall of the season.
The snowfall has led to a shar dip in the mercury, with temperature falling by 8-10 degrees below the normal. While pilgrims are expected to enjoy the first few spells of snowfall, the weather is predicted to turn extremely cold within the next fortnight. In the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, first snowfall of the season was received on Friday, in several districts including Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kinnaur and several others. The severe weather damaged Apple crops in several parts of Kinnaur district.
On Friday, around 70 people were rescued in Lahaul-Spiti district after they struck because of closedown of vehicular movement at the Manali-Leh National Highway due to the snowfall.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the snowfall in Himalayas has marked the end of autumn and beginning of winter in Northern India. In the planes as well, the temperature is expected to sharply dip in the next 10-12 days.
