Dehradun, Sep 10: The Uttarakhand police on Monday arrested the group administrator of a WhatsApp group reportedly for some anti-national activities on the messaging app. According to a tweet by ANI, the ASP Udham Singh Nagar informed that they had received information that some anti-national activities over Referendum 2020 were happening on the WhatsApp group. "We had received info of anti-national activities over Referendum 2020 going on through a WhatsApp group", the Police official said.

He further added saying that the group admin has been arrested and has been sent to jail while the electronic evidence is being sent to Forensics. The official said that intelligence agencies have been informed about the incident and investigation into the matter is underway.

In August, a Whatsapp group admin was among three persons arrested for allegedly spreading rumours about a non-existing crime in Singrauli district. According to a PTI report, the main accused is identified as Surendra Dwivedi who is the ‘admin’ of the Whatsapp group: “Evil of Urjanchal”, police said. Reports inform that Dwivedi allegedly posted a message that villagers in Khutar village had chopped off the private parts of a man after he was found in an objectionable position with a woman, a police official said.
