Dehradun, January 27: In a tragic incident, eight people died, while 11 injured after a pickup van fell into a deep gorge near Pithoragarh road in Champawat earlier today. Rescue operations are underway. The accident occurred when the vehicle was en route to a ghat cremation ground. Uttarakhand: 2 Dead, 3 Injured After Bridge Collapses in Garhi Cantt in Dehradun.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Champawat Dhirendra Gunjyal said that he was supervising the rescue operation in the area and all the injured persons have been rushed to nearby hospitals. Six bodies have recovered till now.

In a similar incident in September last year, at least five people were killed and nearly 21 injured after a bus turned turtle in Uttarakhand. The bus fell down a 50 metre deep gorge near Mohanri on Bhatrojkhan-Bhikiyasan route. Meanwhile, in another incident in July last year, 14 people died and 18 injured when the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation bus skidded off Rishikesh Gangotri Highway into a 250 metre deep gorge near Suryadhar.
