Uttarakhand Shocker: Sub-Inspector Assaults Woman, Rapes Her Multiple Times in Dehradun; Arrested
A sub-inspector in Raipur town of Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district has been suspended and an FIR registered against him for allegedly assaulting and raping a woman multiple times, a police official confirmed.
Dehradun, June 1: A sub-inspector in Raipur town of Uttarakhand’s Dehradun district has been suspended and an FIR registered against him for allegedly assaulting and raping a woman, a police official confirmed. In the complaint, the complainant said the incident took place on December 17, 2023, and alleged that the accused assaulted her and forcefully made physical relations with her at different places.
Hindustan Times reported that the sub-inspector, posted as Mayur Vihar Chowki in charge under Raipur police station, faces charges under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman), 354-B (assault or criminal force to outrage modesty), and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. Superintendent of Police (City) Pramod Kumar stated that the woman, a yoga trainer, had initially filed a theft complaint in February last year, which was handled by the accused officer, then posted at Kuthal Gate Chowki. She alleged that he took her to Nainital under the pretext of visiting the high court and raped her in a hotel in December. The woman also accused him of taking her to a rented accommodation on the Sahastradhara Road where he raped her multiple times. The woman alleged that he also intimidated the woman, misused his service weapon, and physically assaulted her.
Following the woman’s complaint, the police registered a case against the officer on May 29 and suspended him immediately.
Dehradun police issued a statement confirming the registration of the FIR against SI Manoj Bhatt based on the woman’s allegations. The case is being investigated by Sub-Inspector Bhavna under the supervision of Premnagar Circle Officer Reena Rathore. The investigation is ongoing.
