Dehradun, September 14: A residential school with about 100 female students in the Khatima neighbourhood of the Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand has received complaints that three tailors who came to take measurements for school outfits touched the girls inappropriately.

Two of the tailors, Mohammad Shakil and Umar, were detained on Tuesday as a result of the event, which took place between August 22 and September 6. Both individuals are Khatima residents who have been accused of violating many provisions of the Indian Penal Code, including section 354 (outraging a woman's modesty), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. According to reports, the school administration invited hosiery company tailors to take measurements for the children's clothes at the Khatima residential school on Monday. However, it is claimed that the tailors sexually assaulted a number of female pupils throughout this process. The incident came to the notice of the authorities after the parents of the girls lodged a formal complaint with the Khatima police through Rajveer Singh Rana, head of the Parent-Teachers' Association (PTA). In response, a police squad and SDM Khatima Ravindra Singh Bisht went to the school. Three of the tailors accused of molestation and three teachers, including the vice principal, were detained after SDM Bisht admonished the employees for their seeming carelessness.
