Rudraprayag, December 21: In a tragic incident, seven labourers died and five others were injured in a landslide in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Friday. All the workers were working on the Char Dham all-weather road project in the state. Authorities have recovered the bodies of the deceased workers from the site of an accident where rocks fell.
According to District Magistrate of Rudraprayag Mangesh Ghildiyal, there were 23 labourers and 12 of them escaped unhurt. A magisterial enquiry has been ordered into the incident. Rescue operations are still underway. As per reports, two teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been rushed to the spot.

“Two teams of the SDRF with required equipment and tools for the rescue operation have been sent to the spot from the SDRF base in Gaurikund area. Another team from Gochar is also on the way to join the rescue operation,” reported Hindustan Times quoting SDRF official Alok Praveen as saying. The labourers were trying to cut a portion of the mountain, when all of a sudden it came down, reported The Times of India. Most of the deceased labourers belonged to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
