Chamoli, January 22: Heavy rains have led to flood-like conditions in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, impacting the normal lives of people in Gopeshwar. Earlier today, Saraswati Shishu Mandir's primary school building collapsed following heavy rainfall in the region. As the Uttarakhand administration had directed the school authorities to declare a day off after the heavy rain and snowfall warning on Monday, major casualties were averted. According to the visuals shared by news agency ANI, the wall of the Saraswati Shishu Mandir can be seen collapsed along with roof that also came crashing down. According to sources, there would be an investigation into the matter and a meeting to discuss the future course of action after the incident. On Monday, the Uttarakhand administration declared a holiday for school and educational institutions after the heavy rain and snowfall warning by India Meteorological Department (IMD). The warnings were also issued to Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. The IMD has predicted 'very heavy rain and snow' in Uttarakhand.
