Uttarakhand Rains: CM Trivendra Singh Rawat Visits Flood-Affected Uttarkashi District, Announces Ex-Gratia of Rs 4 Lakh
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday visited flood-affected Arakot village in Uttarkashi district of the state to take stock of relief and rescue operations. The death toll in rain-related incidents in the district rose to 16. Rawat also announced ex-gratia of Rs four lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the natural calamity.
Dehradun, August 20: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday visited flood-affected Mori block of Uttarkashi district of the state to take stock of relief and rescue operations. The death toll in rain-related incidents in the district rose to 16. Rawat announced ex-gratia of Rs four lakh to the next of kin of those killed in the natural calamity. The Uttarakhand CM during his visit to Arakot village of the district, said, “Eleven bodies have been recovered so far. Search is being done. An ex-gratia of Rs four lakh each will be given to next of the kin of all deceased.” Meanwhile, Uttarkashi's Disaster Management officer Devendra Patwal told PTI that Search and rescue teams of the State Disaster Response Force recovered three more bodies from Sanel village on Tuesday. Trivendra Singh Rawat Visiting Flood-Affected Area:
The deceased have been identified as Ram Prasad, Sanjog and Sameel who hailed from Himachal Pradesh. Makudi is the worst hit among the villages, where heavy rains led to the collapse of a number of houses early on Sunday. The six affected villages include Arakot, Makudi, Molda, Sanel, Tikochi and Dwichanu. So far, seven bodies have been recovered from Makudi, four each from Arakot and Sanel and one from Tikochi.
Neighbouring state Himachal Pradesh is also reeling under heavy rains. According to reports, close to 30 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the state. Several highways were blocked due to landslides. Floods have also wreaked havoc in several areas of Punjab. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has allocated Rs 100 crore relief to the affected districts in the state. A flood alert has also been sounded in Delhi.
