Chamoli, August 12: In the wake of India Meteorological Department's (IMD) forecast of heavy rainfall in the region, Chamoli District Magistrate Swati S Bhadoriya declared a holiday in all Government and private schools for tomorrow. Anganwadi centres in the district will also remain closed. Heavy rains, flash-floods and landslides have wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand, claiming 28 lives. Chamoli is the worst affected district of the state. The IMD also predicted heavy rainfall Rudrapryag, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Nainital and Pauri districts of the state over the next four days. Meanwhile, on Monday, six people including a mother and her baby lost their lives in a cloudburst in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The 35-year-old Rupa Devi and her nine-month-old daughter were killed as their house was washed away by the flood. According to reports, the lightning began in the night at around 1 am on Monday. In another incident, a 21-year-old woman was killed after her house collapsed in a landslide.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat expressed grief over the incident. Rawat directed the District Administration to expedite rescue and relief operations.
