Mussoorie, September 3: Kempty Falls in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand is a very popular tourist spot but the heavy rainfall in the area has turned it into a monstrous flow. About 180 tourists had to be rescued as the incessant rains turned the waterfalls into a deluge. The 40-feet high waterfall in Tehri Garhwal district had a sudden dramatic gush due to the heavy rains.
The rescue operations went about for an hour on Sunday. The water entered the shops along the way to these falls. Nagendra Panwar, a shopkeeper told TOI, "I have never seen the waterfall like this. I called police immediately after I saw that the tourists who were stuck." The water levels in the Kempty Fall had seen a rise since July 27. The state of Uttarakhand is experiencing heavy rainfall from the past few days. The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains in six districts- Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Paudi, Nainital and Udhamsingh Nagar. The rains have claimed up to 10 lives yet. Meanwhile, landslides were also reported in some areas. Rains are currently lashing the Northern states and Uttar Pradesh is equally affected with the heavy downpour.
