Dehradun, December 26: As intense cold waves continue to grip north India, the holiday has been declared in all schools in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand tomorrow, December 27. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted severe cold spell in North India over the next couple of days. Wednesday was recorded as the coldest day of this season in Dehradun and the state capital. The mercury dipped below five degrees in the night. A dense fog was also reported in the morning in the plains of the state.

On Thursday, all private and public schools also remained closed in Haryana due to cold. The severe cold wave has affected normal life in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. In Uttar Pradesh, 38 people are reported to have died in the past 48 hours, though there is no official confirmation about the total number of deaths reported from various districts.
