Dehradun, Sep 7: At least five people have been killed and nearly 21 have been injured after a bus turned turtle in Uttarakhand on Thursday. According to a tweet by ANI, the bus fell down a 50 metre deep gorge near Mohanri on Bhatrojkhan-Bhikiyasan route. The Police has initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. Soon after the incident was reported, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and a team of district administration were pressed into service for rescue operations.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the Almora disaster management centre informed that the accident took place around 4 pm. The centre said that no rain or landslide was reported in the area. Reports inform that the Garhwal Motor Operators Union (GMOU) bus carrying 26 passengers was on its way to Gairsain from Ramnagar when the accident took place.

P Renuka Devi, superintendent of police, Almora was quoted in the report saying that the Police team has rescued four severely injured passengers with the help of choppers. He further informed that the injured ones were taken to the All India Institute of Medical Science in Rishikesh. The report informed that five other passengers who were injured were taken to Ramnagar and Ranikhet for treatment.

On Tuesday, a passenger vehicle was hit by a landslide on Gantri National Highway in Uttarkashi district. The incident claimed lives of 14 of the 15 people aboard. In another separate incident, at least nine people were killed after a van fell into a gorge in Uttarkashi on Monday.
