Dehradun, October 8: The Uttarakhand government has introduced a new provision in its excise policy for the fiscal year 2023-24, allowing individuals to obtain licenses to keep mini-bars at home but with certain caveats. The home bar licence can be obtained by those who have been filing Income Tax returns for the past five years with an annual fee of Rs 12,000. It must be noted that the applicant must submit an affidavit affirming compliance with certain criteria to obtain a home mini-bar license in Uttarakhand. The new excise policy states the mini-bar must be used exclusively for personal purposes, and no commercial activities will be permitted. Additionally, the mini-bar must remain closed on notified dry days. This means the licence owner must not use the mini-bar on prohibited days. The mini-bar owner must ensure that no one under the age of 21 in the family comes into the area where it is set up. As per the Dehradun District Excise Officer Rajiv Chauhan, anyone who has been filing an Income Tax Return (ITR) for the past five years can apply for the licence at the district magistrate office, which will finally issue the home bar licence at an annual fee of Rs 12,000. Once approved, the licence holder will be permitted to store certain quantities of liquor at home with a maximum of 9 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 18 litres of foreign alcohol, 9 litres of wine and 15.6 litres of beer at any given time.
