Dehradun, October 5: At least eight people were killed and five others were injured after a mini-bus rolled down in a deep gorge in Uttarakhand. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place in Sonagarh near Bhatwari in Uttarkashi district of the hill state. Reports inform that then injured ones have been admitted to district hospital. The rescue operation is being conducted by SDRF at the site of the accident. More details awaited.

Earlier in September, five people were killed and twenty-one others were injured after a bus fell into a 50-feet deep gorge in Uttarakhand's Almora district. According to details by ANI, the accident took place on Bhatrojkhan-Bhikiyasan route near Mohanri, where about 30 people in the bus at the time of the accident.

"A Garhwal Motor Owners Union (GMOU) bus plying between Ramnagar to Gairsan fell off the road into a 50-feet deep gorge near Bhatrojkhan Mohanri," a police official was quoted by ANIHimachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand Witness Heavy Rain and Snowfall, Vehicles Washed Away in Beas River; Watch Video.

However, as per a data released by the state police department,  the road accidents in the Himalayan state have decreased by around 7% during the first eight months of 2018. According to a TOI report, till September 2018, the state reported 976 accidents against 1,049 in the similar period in 2017. Meanwhile, nearly 694 people have been killed between January 1 and August 31 on the road this year as against 641 in 2017.
