Dehradun, August 18: In a shocking incident, a 12-yr-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and killed by four men in Bhakra village on Friday night. The girl was kidnapped from her home by the accused. A case has been registered under sections 302, 376 and 363 as well as under section 3/4 of the POCSO Act. According to a report published in The Times of India, the girl has been kidnapped by the labourers who had come to work in the state. The victim's body has been found on Saturday morning near her village.
Internet services have been suspended in the area following protests by locals. The police have constituted a Special Investigation Team of nine officials to probe the case. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has assured strict action against the accused. Talking to media, he said, “The murder of a girl child after gang-rape in Uttarkashi has shaken me. There is no place for such demonic crimes in our 'Devbhumi', and I assure that all culprits in this incident will be given strictest punishment under the law.”
According to the report, Gangotri MLA Gopal Rawat met the protesters and also promised strict action against the culprits. District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan and SP Dadan Pal have also reached the spot to pacify locals. Meanwhile, Congress termed the incident as a failure of the state government. In a Similar incident in July, an 11-year-old girl was raped and murdered by a labourer in Sahaspur village of Dehradun.
