Lucknow, May 25: A man was injured in an indiscriminate firing by a youth in a hotel in Robertganj in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district on Saturday. District Superintendent of Police Salmantaj Jafertaj Patil also narrowly escaped in the firing. The youth identified as Pankaj Yadav continued to fire for about half an hour. According to a report published in The Times of India, Yadav who belonged to Jaunpur broke into the room of Bhojpuri film actress Ritu Singh, with a pistol and threatened her to marry him. Crew members of a Bhojpuri film unit from Mumbai were staying in the hotel for the shooting of a film.

According to the report, Yadav fired at a local youth Ashok after he intervened. Ashok sustained bullet injury on his waist and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Hotel staffers then informed the police. The police team headed by the SP reached the spot immediately. SP Patil tried to convince the youth to put down his pistol, but he fired at him. Bullets passed close to the SP’s ear. The cops then overpowered Yadav and arrested him. The police investigation is underway. "Pankaj continued pointing pistol at Ritu and me. He was adamant to marry her," reported TOI quoting the SP as saying. According to the report, the youth was stalking the actress for a long time now.
