Sambhal, July 1: In a tragic incident highlighting ongoing safety concerns in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, two teenagers lost their lives after drowning in a rainwater pit. The two youngsters, aged 14 and 12 respectively, tragically lost their lives after Mahreen jumped into a rainwater-filled pit where Abdul had become trapped. The pit, reportedly left uncovered by a brick kiln owner, proved fatal despite desperate efforts by Mahreen to save Abdul. Authorities have pledged INR 4 lakh compensation to each bereaved family, acknowledging the tragic loss and the circumstances leading to the incident.
The tragic incident in Sambhal unfolded when Mahreen, accompanied by her younger brother Arbaaz and cousin Abdul Qadir, went to deliver food to their parents working on a nearby farm. Upon reaching the site, Abdul, enticed by the water in a nearby pit left open by a brick kiln owner, decided to take a bath. However, the pit, which was supposed to be filled with rainwater, proved dangerous as Abdul got stuck in the muddy surface and began drowning. Witnessing her cousin's distress, Mahreen courageously jumped into the pit to rescue him. Despite her brave efforts, both Mahreen and Abdul tragically drowned, leaving their families devastated. The presence of the pit in the village raises significant questions about safety protocols and regulatory oversight. According to a report by Times of India, the pit had been dug with the necessary approvals from the revenue department but was left uncovered, posing a serious hazard to locals, especially children.
