Uttar Pradesh Shocker: Woman Dies by Suicide Over Dowry Harassment and Fights Over ‘Habit of Making and Posting Reels on Instagram’

Kanpur, August 12: A woman allegedly died by suicide at her in-laws’ residence in Pilkhana in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh after reportedly facing continuous harassment for dowry. According to the reports, the husband of the woman used to get upset and would pick fights with her over her habit of making and posting reels on Instagram. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Akarabad police station, approximately 325 km from the state capital, Lucknow.

According to a report published by NDTV, the victim was identified as Muskan. The police have registered an FIR against Muskan’s husband, Chand, and his family members based on a complaint from the victim’s family. Woman Dies by Suicide Over Dowry Harassment

Neighbours said that Muskan and Chand, who married in 2018, frequently argued. Chand disapproved of Muskan’s habit of making and posting reels on Instagram. Muskan had called her parents to her in-laws’ house, but when they arrived, they found her dead. Police officer Sanjana Singh confirmed the registration of the case and stated that the body had been sent for a postmortem examination. Further investigations are ongoing.

In June, a 24-year-old woman was found hanging at her residence in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia as her father alleged that she was killed for dowry by her husband and in-laws. The incident took place in the Chitbadgaon area of this district, they said. According to the police, Priyanka's father, Vijay Shankar Yadav, a resident of Govindpur village, has complained to his daughter's husband, Satyendra Yadav, father-in-law Janardan Yadav, mother-in-law Shivrati and one other Sarita Devi alleging that they were harassing her for dowry and killed her.
