Rampur, September 19: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old woman and her three-month-old daughter were allegedly burnt alive by her in-laws in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district. According to reports, the woman's in-laws burnt her alive over demand for dowry. The incident took place in Hajipura mohalla of the district on Tuesday. An FIR was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including section 302 (murder) against seven members of the family, including the husband, at Tanda kotwali police station, reported The Times of India. The victim was identified as Shabnam. She was married to Mohammed Qasim in 2015, who runs a fruit business in the district. Superintendent of Police Ajay Sharma said, “Case registered. Investigation will be done on the basis of circumstantial evidence.” Police have launched a manhunt operation to nab the accused. Victim’s brother Zahid Ali alleged that Shabnam was tortured by her in-laws as her family failed to fulfil their demand of Rs two lakh. At the time, when the 25-year-old-woman gave birth to the baby girl, her brother also gifted Rs one lakh to the in-laws, but they continued to harass her.
