Lakhimpur Kheri, January 4: Stopped from drinking alcohol, three drunk individuals killed a 46-year-old borewell operator, Balram Rana, from Haryana, at a work site in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri. Among the assailants was a 34-year-old, Kuldeep Kumar Bajpai, who had been released on bail a month ago after being accused in a murder and loot case.

According to multiple reports, the event unfolded late on Tuesday, January 2, in Prakash Nagar locality, where Balram was installing an overhead water tank under the Jal Shakti Ministry's "Har Ghar Jal" initiative. The assailants, including the main accused, identified as Kuldeep Kumar Bajpai, allegedly created a disturbance while Rana and his co-workers were lighting a bonfire after dinner. Two of the men held Rana while the third, armed with a pistol, shot him in the neck. As per reports, the victim succumbed to excessive bleeding despite being rushed to the hospital. As reported, Kuldeep was released on bail just a month ago and is now wanted in connection with Balram's murder. The police have registered an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code against all three individuals involved in the incident. Police are conducting raids to apprehend the suspects and ensure they face legal consequences.
