Muzaffarnagar, April 28: "You are no longer my wife. You are my sister-in-law now." These chilling words preluded a horrifying act in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, where a man attempted to strangle his wife to death after she disclosed being raped by his brother. The woman's revelation turned tragic as her husband disowned her and, alongside his brother, launched a vicious assault the following day.

As reported by NDTV,  the survivor's ordeal began on April 2 when she was raped by her brother-in-law while her husband was away. Upon her husband's return, when she told him about the assault, expecting empathy and support. Instead, he callously disowned her, stating, "You are no longer my wife. You are my sister-in-law now." Attempting to silence her, the husband climbed on top of her and tried to strangle her with her own dupatta while his brother recorded the horrifying ordeal on his mobile phone. Superintendent of Police Satyanarayan Prajapati assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the accused swiftly, with investigations ongoing. This chilling incident adds to a series of alarming cases of domestic violence and crime against women in Uttar Pradesh. Similarly, in Ghaziabad, a 55-year-old man was arrested for murdering his wife and concealing her body at their residence in March.
