Muzaffarnagar, September 14: In a shocking incident bearing similarities to the infamous Imrana case of 2005, a 23-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district was abandoned by her husband after being sexually assaulted by her own father-in-law. The event unfolded on July 5, when the victim, seven months pregnant at the time, was alone at home. Her 50-year-old father-in-law forcibly entered her residence and raped her, following which he also threatened her life should she dare to report the crime.

According to multiple reports, the victim finally filed a police complaint on September 7, detailing the traumatic ordeal. Shockingly, when she disclosed the assault to her husband, he callously asserted that their relationship could no longer continue, asserting that she had become his father's wife due to the assault. To compound her suffering, she alleged that her husband subjected her to physical violence before expelling her from their home, refusing her pleas for reconciliation. Uttar Pradesh Shocker: Man Rapes Five-Year-Old Girl in Barabanki, Leaves Her in Field Believing to Be Dead.

The legal response to this appalling incident has been swift, with authorities registering cases against both the father-in-law and the husband. The father-in-law faces charges under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation), while the husband has been booked under section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt). Hathras Gang-Rape Case: Supreme Court Agrees To Examine Victim’s Family’s Plea Seeking Relocation and Rehabilitation Outside Uttar Pradesh.

This distressing case is similar to the tragic Imrana case of 2005, which garnered nationwide attention. Imrana, a mother of five, was sexually assaulted by her father-in-law, leading to a shocking edict by the minority community panchayat that decreed her husband must now be treated as her son, rendering their marriage null and void. Justice was eventually served in Imrana's case, with her assailant being sentenced to a 10-year prison term.
