Lucknow, September 29: With incessant rains creating havoc in Uttar Pradesh for the last four days, 73 people have been reportedly died, and numerous have gone missing. Several parts of the states have received above-average rainfall this week, and the administration had issued a red alert -- especially in the eastern part of the state. Following this, the Indian Railways have cancelled at least 13 trains, while diverted several others.
According to the details, the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh is the worst hit. In Prayagraj alone, 102.2 mm of rain was witnessed on Saturday, while in Varanasi the precipitation was 84.2 mm. The MeT department informed that on Friday, Uttar Pradesh received a rainfall 1700 percent above normal. Following the continuous downpour, 26 people died across the state on Saturday, while 47 deaths were reported on Thursday and Friday. Due to the heavy rains, schools in Lucknow, Amethi, Hardoi and some other districts remained closed on Friday and Saturday. With the situation blowing out of proportion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had asked the emergency services to rescue as many people as they can. Also, the CM has asked the officials to extend monetary help of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of those killed.
For the rescue mission, the National Disaster Response Force had deployed 8 of its teams have been deployed in the state. Hospitals and medical centres have been given strict instructions to help ailing people. Meanwhile, the MeT department had predicted heavy rain in the next couple of days.
