Uttar Pradesh: Protesting Farmers Set Ablaze Pipe Near Power Station, Damage Several Vehicles at Trans Ganga City Project Site in Unnao
In the wake of the incident, Unnao SP said villagers and some miscreants had attacked several officials of UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) & damaged their vehicles.
Unnao, November 17: Protesting farmers in Uttar Pradesh allegedly set ablaze a pipe, kept in front of power sub station and also set on fire a vehicle of crusher plant in Unnao on Sunday. On Saturday, farmers held protest alleging that they have not been properly compensated for their lands that has been acquired for Trans Ganga City project of UP State Industrial Development Corp. In the wake of the incident, Unnao SP said villagers and some miscreants had attacked several officials of UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC) & damaged their vehicles.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate (DM) said that some miscreants are doing this. "We will go to villages&appeal to people to maintain peace. This is a deed of miscreants. We'll maintain peace & the work (Trans Ganga City project) will also go on", the DM added.

The Trans Ganga City is the planned satellite township in the Indian province of Uttar Pradesh in the Unnao district which comes under the Kanpur metropolitan area. According to a tweet by ANI, the police official said that several miscreants had later fired bullets on the police party and pelted stones at them. In this incident, five cops were injured. The Police official added saying that the UPSIDC has lodged FIR against 8 named and 200 unidentified people. The investigation into the matter is currently underway. The Police assured that strict action will be taken against accused.
On Saturday, hundreds of farmers and the Unnao police clashed at the site for the ambitious Trans-Ganga City on Saturday. They pelted stones at the JCB machine which was deployed to carry out work for the high-tech trans-Ganga city. The situation however, returned to normal on Sunday, a day after the clash turned violent in the area. The local administration and the police are on alert and keeping an eye on the farmers residing in the area. Security has been beefed up at the protest site in order to prevent any untoward incident in the future.
