Hathras, November 7: In a heart-wrenching incident in Uttar Pradesh, a physically-challenged vendor was allegedly beaten to death by some policemen over a monetary dispute in Sadar area Hathras town on Monday night. The victim has been identified as 44-year-old Vimal Kumar who used to run kiosk near a liquor shop in the area. Locals took to streets to protest over his death. The protesters even blocked the Agra-Aligarh highway. Police registered an FIR against sub-inspector Ashish Yadav. He was also suspended, and departmental authority has been ordered. “A case has been registered against Ashish and recommendations have been made to district magistrate Rama Shankar Maurya for a magisterial probe into the matter,” reported Hindustan Times quoting Hathras Superintendent of Police, Jai Prakash. According to the report, On Monday night, some cops, led by Ashish Yadav, brutally thrashed the physically challenged man over a monetary dispute. After the incident, Vimal was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The District Magistrate announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the victim’s family.

In a similar incident, an Apple executive Vivek Tiwari was shot dead by UP Police constable in Gomti Nagar area on September 29 while he was going to drop his colleague Sana Khan. The two constables Prashant Chowdhury and Sandeep Kumar were arrested and dismissed from the job, and an FIR was registered in the matter on the basis of a complaint by his colleague. A CBI enquiry was also ordered in the case.
