Kanpur, July 14: A wedding in Deoria district turned chaotic when the groom’s family attacked the bride’s relatives over the absence of non-vegetarian food on the menu in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria. The incident, which occurred because fish was not served at the wedding, led to the cancellation of the wedding and accusations of dowry demands.
According to a report published by Amar Ujala, Abhishek Sharma was set to marry Sushma, daughter of Dinesh Sharma from Anand Nagar village. The wedding proceeded smoothly until the groom’s family discovered that the menu was entirely vegetarian, featuring paneer, pulao, and various vegetarian curries. Enraged by the lack of fish and meat, the groom and his relatives began using abusive language and physically assaulted the bride’s family with sticks.

No Fish on Menu, Groom, Relatives Thrash Bride’s Family in Uttar Pradesh
A video of the incident shows a chaotic scene with both sides engaging in a physical altercation, throwing punches and chairs. The bride’s father, Dinesh Sharma, reported that the groom’s family initiated the violence after he objected to their abusive behaviour.
Dowry Allegations
In his complaint, Dinesh Sharma claimed to have given Rs 4.5 lakh to the groom for purchasing a car, along with a tilak set and two gold rings worth Rs 20,000. He accused the groom of demanding dowry and using the lack of non-vegetarian food as an excuse to call off the wedding.
The bride’s family has filed a complaint against the groom and his relatives, and the police are investigating the matter.
